Our Team

Aviation Insurance Australia [AIA] is the trading name for Aviation Insurance Brokers Australia Pty Ltd, established in 1993, and owned by Ian Tait who has 35 years in the aviation insurance business. Ian places his own assets and reputation on the line when he partners a client with insurance advice. Furthermore, he can add value to that relationship with advice on finance and other challenges encountered by aviation managers. Ian’s qualifications include MBA QPIB FNIBA FAIM and FAICD.

Ian M Tait – Managing Director

Ian commenced his aviation insurance career in 1977 with an international broking company and during that time he obtained experience overseas in the London and South African markets.  He became the National Aviation Insurance manager in Australia for this company prior to forming his own aviation insurance broking company in 1983.  His business was purchased by the Australian Aviation Underwriting Pool in 1988 and he was appointed Queensland Manager of the Australian Aviation Underwriting Pool.

Ian returned to broking in 1993 when Aviation Insurance Brokers of Australia was established at Archerfield Airport.  The company has since grown to the largest Australian owned and independent aviation insurance broker under his management.

Ian holds a private pilots licence with a command instrument rating and owns a fleet of single and multi engine aircraft which gives him an acute insight into the operation and ownership of an aviation business.   He is a Qualified Aviation Insurance Broker and a Fellow of the National Insurance Brokers Association of Australia as well as a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.  He has a MBA and is presently studying a post graduate course in Aviation Risk Management through RMIT University.

Chris J Stainer – Senior Broker

Chris commenced his involvement in aviation insurance at a Lloyd’s of London Aviation Syndicate in 1996. He also spent time with the British Aviation Insurance Group prior to moving to Australia.  He joined the aviation division of a multi national insurance broker prior to resigning and commencing with Aviation Insurance Brokers of Australia in 1998.

During his time at Archerfield, Chris has carried out flying training with a local flying school. He is also a Qualified Professional Insurance Broker accredited by the National Insurance Brokers Association and is at Licensee level in the company’s ASIC requirements.

Chris has undertaken post graduate studies and has attained his Graduate Certificate in Business Administration.

Sara Barnard – Broker

Sara started with Aviation Insurance Brokers in 2009 and holds a Bachelor of Business with a double major in Management and Human Resource Management from James Cook University.

She has worked in aviation in one form or another for the majority of her working career, including 8 years employment with a general aviation airline based in Cairns, that serviced the Cape York and Torres Strait communities. During this time she moved to Townsville to open and manage their new remote base. She has also worked for a major operator in the ‘Fly In, Fly Out’ service industry.

Sara is an ASIC accredited Tier 1 Advisor and completed her Diploma of Financial Services in 2013.

David Tait – Broker

David has been around and interested in aviation since early childhood, and with the completion of his private pilot’s license in 2012 at Archerfield Airport, David joined Aviation Insurance Brokers to continue his passion in aviation.

Since commencing with Aviation Insurance Brokers David has qualified as an ASIC accredited Tier 1 Advisor and is working towards his Diploma of Financial Services. David also continues to extend his knowledge of the sky by having obtained his UAS controllers license and working towards his A Certificate in gliding.

David is Aviation Insurance Brokers’ Claims Manager and is available to assist when your insurance is most required.
